What is Hand Surgery?
Hand Surgery is that specialty with both surgical and non-surgical treatment of conditions and problems that may occur in the hand, arm or shoulder. Hand surgeons treat problems ranging from tendonitis to nerve conditions. The hand, elbow and upper extremity are complex systems and to successfuly treat conditions associated with these areas requires years of highly specialized training including:
- Four year college degree,
- Completion of medical school (4 years),
- Completion of a residency program in either Orthopaedic Surgery (5 years), or Plastic Surgery (5-7 years),
- Completion of an accredited hand surgery fellowship (1 year).
Each of our surgeons holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery.
